Hi, I’m Jacinda, a fifth-generation farmers wife, Mum of 2 beautiful daughters and a Doula living in the Scenic Rim.

I am incredibly passionate about supporting, preparing and holding women and families through their journeys where they feel educated, informed and empowered. I am a big believer in ‘Hold the mother, not the baby’.

The passion to do this work sparked once I went through the journey personally myself, with the births of my daughters. I had completely different pregnancies, labour, births and post-partum, that taught me different things but mainly opened my eyes to the incredible need for support during such a significant and transformative time. It is a time in your life that is forever engraved in your heart and mind and I believe every woman and family deserves to have a positive experience.

I got talking and connecting to women, listening to their stories, their experiences and it was clear that there was a really big gap in support. I decided to see what I could offer to bridge that gap, so I completed my Doula studies with the Australian Doula College.

I really strive for my business to reflect me and my life, and show up authentically.

And whilst being a mother consumes most of my days now and it is a huge part of my identity, I still have other sides to me. I love cooking and baking, being creative and trying new things, farm life, playing with my dogs, listening to music, going on adventures with my family, spending time with friends and having a good chat.

Birth is a really big deal. It is a significant and life-changing event that can impact a woman’s thoughts of herself, her relationships with her family and her experience of parenting leaving a deep impression on the body.

It’s also not necessarily how your baby enters the world, but how you feel during the experience, how you are treated, and supported through the whole process is what matters. The health of our future generation is dependent on mothers, and the care, support and attention are essential for both.

Why Silk and Tassel?

I get asked quite a bit about the name of my business Silk and Tassel. About why? What it means?

So I thought I’d share the meaning behind it all.

I grew up on farming land, on a cropping farm in the Lockyer Valley where I spent a lot of time helping out. My parents and family grow vegetables such as potatoes, broccoli, lettuce, cauliflowers, cabbages and pumpkins. School holidays always were busy with lots of work to do. I always loved being on the farm, outside in the fresh air. It’s definitely a different lifestyle to the ordinary, and life does revolve around the farm.

I was then fortunate enough to meet a farmer myself, got married and have two beautiful girls we’re raising here. We’re the fifth generation of his family on the farm and in the original house on the property. We grow a range of vegetable crops including corn, carrots, green beans and grain crops and hay for feed.

Corn has been a big part of our farming. The Silk and Tassel are actually a part of the corn's anatomy and essentially the female (silk) and male parts (tassel) responsible for pollination.

The pollen from the tassel comes out and falls onto the silk, pollinating the plant. And the coolest part is that each silk makes a kernel. I think it’s pretty darn cool, and thought it tied somewhat nicely and kind of relevant as being on the farm is a big part of my life.
